The Broken Chainz - Endlessly

Recorded in Brad's basement
A Message from Brad Beaty (from late 2019)
Endlessly is the (possibly) last song ever created by The Broken Chainz. After years of being together happily, Julia Landick shockingly announced her departure from the band to pursue her education more seriously. At this moment when everyone else was speechless, I knew we had to make our last song together. We performed our last cover set together, with the last song appropriately being "Time" by Pink Floyd. It was extremely emotional with everyone crying at the end. Julia at first wasn't so supportive at the idea of making our "Final Song," since she wanted us to still continue on with the name "The Broken Chainz." But Jake, Nick and I all agreed that there's no The Broken Chainz without Julia, so we commenced making our song. With limited time, Julia Jake and I (unfortunately Nick couldn't make it) got together to record in a professional studio called "Brad's Basement". Recording conditions were pretty horrible, with the microphone picking up my sister swinging in the background and everything being pretty cramped. Since we wasted the whole day doing other stuff, we only had a few hours to record all Julia's vocal parts and at the end there were obvious flaws like distortion and noise which we didn't have time to fix, but in the end I think it added some good "rawness" and made it more emotional.
Being described as "Gothic Folk" by Don's girlfriend, Endlessly is certainly the most depressing thing we made. It is a 6 minute epic ballad and with the lyrics being made up pretty spontaneously in the recording sessions without much editing and thought, it was more like Julia saying goodbye to us directly rather then her singing in a song.
"Although I’m gone
You’ll still go on and play
Carry on what we started
4 years to date
I love you all
Endlessly"
It took me forever to finally finish the song. Everytime when it sounded good to me the next day it didn't sound the same and it needed more things to get tweaked. I originally planned on it just to be the same acoustic guitar chords with a faint ride cymbal playing quarter notes in the background, but for 6 minutes it was too boring for someone to appreciate. I had to add a lot of parts that I'm still not sure if I truly like or not, but I had to stop myself eventually because this would have went on for a year. After almost finally finishing the song, I got a text from Julia saying that there's an open mic at the music school we go to and we should play together. I quickly had to teach Julia the parts and we played a true emotional short acoustic rendition of Endlessly. Since writing this, that was the last time there was any kind of new performance or "reunion" of The Broken Chainz. Since then, Camille Kociuba joined us as a replacement for Julia, and we named our new band Melophobia. Unfortunately, this band is already disbanded due to Jake leaving. I guess we have to write another final song for Jake then...
